LiveText Launches New Platform for Academic and Self Discovery

LiveText has added a new e-portfolio platform, Via, to its array of learning and assessment technologies.

Via is a "learner-centered platform designed to engage all users in a deeper process of academic and self discovery," according to the company. The system is designed to capture and record events in the learning process to document a user's full learning journey. "Students can review all learning experiences from both inside the classroom and outside the classroom, reflect on areas for improvement, and use that record of growth to create a portrait of their achievements in shareable e-portfolios."

In addition to students, faculty and programs can use the platform to capture and review activities, measure progress toward goals and document learning. A "Timeline" feature allows users to curate their work in e-portfolios that can be shared either directly or via social media.

Other features include:

  • Customizable workflow engine;
  • Creative authoring tools;
  • Group capabilities;
  • Flexible assessment instruments;
  • Multiple options for collecting student work; and
  • Real-time assessment reports.

For assessing activities outside the classroom, Via also offers capabilities for non-course-based assessment, prior learning experience assessment, competency-based assessment, strategic institutional planning, curriculum review and co-curricular student affairs activities.

Prior to launch, Via was beta-tested and piloted by several higher ed institutions, including Upper Iowa University, Point Loma Nazarene University and Purchase College, State University of New York. For more information, visit the LiveText site.
