Learning Credential Blockchain Platform in Development

IBM is working with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), National Student Clearinghouse and VetBloom by Ethos Veterinary Health to develop a blockchain-based platform where job applicants can share their credentials with prospective employers.

The group is developing a platform for learning credentials that "allows for the development and sharing of tamper-evident, digital credentials," according to an IBM blog post.

The platform will "mitigate the risk of fraud" and make it "significantly easier for companies to identify promising candidates." It will also help academic institutions manage the "huge increase in demand for learning credentials."

The goal is to create a minimal viable product running on the IBM Blockchain Platform to help the broader community of learning credential issuers and users while providing interoperability between blockchain frameworks and digital self-sovereignty for individuals.

CNM is also working with IBM to develop a micro-credentialing platform that will allow students to get badges for completing a semester-long course that teaches a specific skill.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Southern New Hampshire University and East Coast Polytechnic Institute University are also exploring how to make digital diplomas available to students and prospective employers using the Blockcerts open standard.
