Moravian College Program Provides Badges, Career Support to Students

A new initiative at Moravian College in Pennsylvania combines academic support and global study with career exploration to help prepare students for post-graduation success. The ELEVATE program will provide an integrated curriculum focused teamwork/leadership, global experiences (through study abroad or local options with a global perspective), work experience and career support.

As part of the program, students can earn badges based on eight career readiness competencies defined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers:

  • Critical thinking/problem solving;
  • Oral/written communications;
  • Teamwork/collaboration;
  • Digital technology;
  • Leadership;
  • Professionalism/work ethic;
  • Career management; and
  • Global/intercultural fluency.

Completing the badges qualifies students for the Moravian Career Promise, wherein students are guaranteed post-graduation career and financial support if they are not employed or have not been accepted into a graduate-level program within six months of graduating from the college.

"The decision to create ELEVATE and launch it beginning with the Class of 2025 was based on very extensive research, highlighting what college-age students, their families and the employers that hire them want from their undergraduate experience," said Bryon Grigsby, president of Moravian College, in a statement. "This approach has served Moravian well for decades — listen to the community, hear what's most important and create the programs and initiatives to address those needs."
