Sophos Upgrades Web Security Appliance
Security solutions provider Sophos has released a free upgrade to
its WS1000 Web security appliance. It includes expanded protection
against a variety of data security threats and new enforcement and
reporting improvements.
The WS1000 is a Web filtering and malware blocking appliance
targeted largely toward schools and other public sector institutions.
The new upgrade adds multi-layer protection against anonymizing proxies
and HTTPS scanning. It also includes enhanced end-user enforcement and
reporting functionality (including content categories, sites visited,
and time spent online), with URL filtering, content filtering, and
malware scanning.
Other new features include:
- A proxy "reputation" service, which tracks new proxies as they become available and adds them to the block list;
- Real-time scanning to detect whether traffic is being routed through an anonymizing proxy; and
- Enforcement of "safe search" mode in the major search engines.
The upgrade to the WS1000 Web security appliance is available now for free. Further information can be found here.
