IIT Delhi Delivers Services with Ingres Open Source

Administrators at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have gone public with their installation of open source database management software from Ingres. IIT Delhi, one of seven leading institutes of technology in India, adopted Ingres Database to support administration functions such as grading, finance, human resources, procurement, and hospital administration.

The school has 10,000 students and 2,000 staff.

"Since Ingres based applications and databases are easy to maintain, we are already seeing significant savings in technical resource deployment," said Ashvin K. Gosain, professor and head of Administrative Computerization Support Services at the institute. "The Ingres open source database addresses and exceeds our requirement for mission critical applications."

IIT Delhi also subscribes to Ingres' support services.

"Ingres support has helped us significantly both onsite from Ingres' local India offices, as well as from its global support centers," said Gosain.

Ingres, which CA sold in 2005 to a private equity firm, began offering its software in open source form starting in 2004.
