Promethean Refreshes ActivClassroom Lineup

Education technology developer Promethean this week introduced a range of hardware and software for the ActivClassroom, the company's lineup of classroom learning tools. The announcement was made at the 2009 National Educational Computer Conference (NECC) in Washington, DC.

Activclassroom is a lineup of tools for classroom learning that includes instructional materials, collaboration features, assessment solutions, interactive devices, and various other resources for teachers and students. According to Promethean, the entire line has been redesigned with a new look and enhanced workflow, and individual products have also been enhanced with a range of new features.

Some of the new hardware includes:

  • An expanded ActivBoard lineup, including the ActivBoard 300 Pro, which offers built-in speakers, a built-in amplifier, and two USB ports, with support for dual user input;
  • New ActivBoard+2 systems, which are ActivBoards with integrated projectors(LCD or DLP) and mounting hardware;
  • ActivArena, a collaborative classroom tool, which allows two users to work with ActivBoards simultaneously; and
  • ActiView, a visual presenter/document camera system that an take still and moving images of 3D objects; and

On the software side, Promethean has updated ActivInspire with several new features. ActivInspire is a cross-platform software tool too help teachers with lesson planning and delivery, with support for video, sound, graphics, flip charts, and other instructional tools. The new ActivInspire 1.2 Professional Edition includes self-paced learning to enable real-time response details for the ActivExpression interactive classroom response system, including details for every individual student.

In other Promethean news, the company also announced that its interactive whiteboard community, Promethean Planet, now has almost 350,000 members and more than 12,000 free teacher-generated lesson plans.
