Course Tech Produces Information Security Texts

A new series from a division of Cengage Learning will address security measures for technology students. Course Technology has published five titles in the "Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures Series." The content was developed in partnership with the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council), which has a certification program and provides training curriculum through universities, including Zayed University in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Charles Sturt University in Australia.

The books are designed to immerse students in an interactive environment where they will be shown how to scan, test, hack, and secure information systems. According to the publisher, the idea behind the name of the series is that by gaining an understanding of how black hat hackers operate, "an ethical hacker will be able to set up strong countermeasures and defensive systems to protect an organization's critical infrastructure and information."

Titles cover attack phases; Linux, Macintosh, and mobile systems; network infrastructures; threats and defense mechanisms; and Web applications and data servers. They're available in both textbook and e-book formats and as individual chapters. Some titles are also available as rentals. For example, the "Ethical Hacking and Network Defense" book is priced at $102.49 in hard copy format and $52.99 for a 60-day rental.
