Bisk Beefs Up Production Studio with New HD Cameras

Bisk Education has added three new HD cameras to its production studio. The Tampa, FL-based online education provider uses the studio to produce programs for higher education institutions.

Bisk is using JVC's GY-HM750 ProHD cameras outfitted with lenses from Canon. Housed in JVC KA-790G studio sleds and mounted on Vinten pedestals, the cameras feature a JVC VF-HP790G studio viewfinder—for the camera operator—and 22-inch prompter for the instructor, according to a prepared statement from the company.

The new shoulder-mount cameras capture HD and SD footage in native file formats on SDHC memory cards, a feature that weighed heavily in the school's purchase decision, said Mike Knight, the studio's chief engineer. "Let us suppose that we were recording these through a switcher with a chromakey background, which we are,” Knight explained in the statement. "Let us also suppose that we would like the latitude to replace the background with another background, which we do. The easiest way to accomplish this is to record to the on-board SDHC card with the raw green background. The camera’s recorded images key as precisely as anything we’ve recorded with the external Ki Pro.”

The GY-HM750's 68-pin chassis connector enables operators to attach additional modules without the need for external cables. Additional features include:

  • Variable frame rate recording;
  • Image customization capability;
  • Two XLR audio inputs with phantom power;
  • Pre Rec (retro cache) that stores up to 20 seconds of footage; and,
  • Simultaneous recording to dual SDHC cards.
