Unicon Adds Support for Jasig Student Success Plan

Open source service provider Unicon has started providing service and support for the Jasig student retention system, known as Student Success Plan. The announcement was made at the Educause 2012 conference, taking place this week in Denver, CO.

The Student Success Plan, or SSP, is currently an incubation project of the Jasig higher education open source consortium. Designed as a "holistic" student retention system, it combines Web-based software, counseling, and intervention programs to help boost student success rates.

As Unicon described it: "Students, faculty, staff, coaches, advisors, and counselors stay in communication to provide the best possible outcome in student achievement. The software provides case management tools to assist: Student Intake, development of Action Plans, Journals, Case History, Early Alerts, and Comprehensive Referral Guides. SSP is a multi-tiered system, with strong security controls to allow many different institutional roles to work with the student, while maintaining student privacy."

The system allows institutions to target at-risk populations, athletes, or other specific populations.

It was a recipient of a Next Generation Learning Challenge grant. NGLC is an initiative that provides financial support for innovative, technology-centered solutions for improving college readiness and completion, with an emphasis on solutions for minority and low-income students. The program is led by the education organization Educause and is supported by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), iNacol (the International Association for K-12 Online Learning), and the League for Innovation in the Community College.

Unicon's services for SSP include deployment, integration with existing systems, custom development, discovery, hosting, and training. SSP is also supported by Unicon's Cooperative Support Program.

The Student Success Plan is being demonstrated in the "NGLC Alley" at the Educause conference. Other NGLC recipients are also participating in demonstrations. Unicon itself is exhibiting at the Educause show in booth 1124 and will also be demonstrating SSP. Further information about the new services can be found on Unicon's site.
