Universities Build Video Walls with LED Tiles

Northern Kentucky University, a 16,000-student research university located in Highland Heights, Kentucky, installed a 25' x 15' video wall in the Digitorium of its Griffin Hall that displays information about the school, campus events, and student projects. Installed in September 2011, the wall includes 285 MicroTiles from Christie Digital Systems.

Christie is showcasing its MicroTiles at this week's Educause 2012 show in Denver, CO. The modular displays, featuring DLP and LED technologies, can be locked together, like building blocks, to create a number of shapes. The self-calibrating tiles include a one millimeter seam and built-in sensors, which allow them to detect images on adjacent tiles and make adjustments as needed. External control units (ECU), required for each display, deliver the content.

MicroTile displays are also installed at Clarkson University, University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Toronto. Educause attendees can see a MicroTile tower at Desire2Learn's booth as well.
