Ellucian Rolls Out Payment Center, Banner Data Defense

Ellucian has launched a new bundle for Banner users that provides multi-layer security tools designed to protect student, faculty, and staff data. The company also introduced a new payment system designed specifically for higher ed.

Ellucian Banner Data Defense is designed to encrypt application data, monitor traffic, detect threats, and block threats. It's also designed to help organizations with compliance reporting. It incorporates Oracle Advanced Security, Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall, and various other resources, including database scripts, install scripts, configuration scripts, documentation, and reports.

Oracle Advanced Security encrypts data like Social Security numbers and credit card information. The newly released Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall is designed for monitoring database activity and detecting and blocking threats. It also consolidates audit information across a variety of sources, including Oracle databases, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP Sybase, and IBM DB2, with XML and table-based templates. It also offers:

  • An extensible audit framework;
  • Whitelisting and blacklisting;
  • "Dozens" of customizable reports, which can be output to PDF, Excel, and other formats; and
  • Granular admin and auditor permissions.

A free webinar covering Banner Data Defense will be held April 23 at 2 p.m. Eastern. Additional details about Banner Data Defense can be found on Ellucian's site.

In other news, Ellucian has teamed with TouchNet to launch a centralized payment system designed to "help institutions of higher education streamline their accounts receivable and payments processes."

Dubbed Ellucian Payment Center by TouchNet, the PCI-compliant system supports a range of payment types and provides students with self-service options. Other features include:

  • Online account management for students;
  • Online payment options; and
  • Single sign-on to the administrative center.

The system supports Ellucian Banner, Colleague, Advance, Recruiter, and PowerCampus.

Ellucian will be showing off both Banner Data Defense and Ellucian Payment Center by TouchNet at its Ellucian Live user conference, taking place April 7–10.
