Colgate U Adopts Emergency Coordination Service

A New York university has chosen a Web-based application from a New York vendor to help coordinate response during emergencies. Colgate University in Hamilton is adopting DisasterLAN Emergency Manager (DLAN) from Buffalo Computer Graphics. The program is intended to be used for emergency operations center activities, allowing public safety and other staff to share information and coordinate response during an event.
The search for a coordination solution gained momentum after the campus and the local region experienced flooding from Hurricanes Irene and Lee.
DLAN is already in use in nine New York counties and, according to the company, can exchange information for better "situational awareness" with any other emergency system that complies with federal interoperability standards, such as the Emergency Data Exchange Language (EDXL).
The university worked with consulting firm Emergency Preparedness Resource Group and Buffalo Computer Graphics to configure the software and integrate it into existing business and emergency workflows. The campus expects to use DLAN not just for emergency situations but also to manage events, including large-scale training.
