Carlow University Replaces Legacy LMS to Improve Collaboration
Carlow University in
Pittsburgh is replacing its legacy learning management system (LMS) with one new to the higher ed market.
Schoology, already popular
with K-12 educational technology, has begun offering products for
higher
education as well. Its higher ed LMS features course management, assessment management, in-depth analytics
and
flexible standards-based integrations with other systems. Central to
the system
is an assessment management platform with assessment and reporting
functions at
the course and administration level.
Faculty
and students can access their courses and campus activities from
anywhere using
Schoology's native mobile apps. According to information from the
company,
Schoology uses a learner-centric rather than course-centric design, and
it can
support any type of campus activity, in addition to courses. With the
mobile
apps, faculty can manage their classes from anywhere and students can
stay
connected via any device.
"Carlow
University places the student learning experience at the heart of all
our
degree programs and Schoology matches that vision," said Carlow Chief
Information
Officer Jeffrey Devlin. "We see Schoology's great potential in being so
much
more than a content repository. It is a collaboration platform where
instructors and students engage in new ways and can have much richer
learning
interactions together."
Carlow
is a private Catholic university with about 2,400 undergraduate and
graduate students.
It offers both live and on-line courses, and began using Schoology with
its
recently completed summer session.
"It is
always gratifying to be installed at a learning institution that values
the
individual learning experience as much as Carlow University because,
when
students are at the focus, Schoology shines," said Schoology CEO Jeremy
Friedman.
