Treehouse Launches $1 Million Scholarship Program for Tech Nonprofits
In effort to increase diversity in the tech industry, online education provider Treehouse has launched a new scholarship program to expand educational opportunities for underrepresented groups.
The Treehouse Scholarship Program “brings affordable technology education to people everywhere in order to help them achieve their dreams and change the world,”according to the program website. The program provides a matching donation (doubling the number of available seats in their offerings) to nonprofit organizations that have a mission similar to Treehouse to expand accessibility of quality tech education. The program will work with “businesses, government organizations or individuals that want to nominate a nonprofit and sponsor them” as well.
So far, scholarship recipients include:
- Operation Code, a veteran-led and veteran-serving organization that helps active military and veterans learn to code and build software;
- LaunchCode, a nonprofit that helps individuals gain tech skills for employment; and
- Path Forward, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people return to work after career breaks.
