Utica College Offers Blended Learning Program through 'Super' Smart Classroom

Utica College in New York has built a "super" smart classroom at its Clark City Center location to support its blended Master's of Business Administration (MBA) program.

The program, which is also referred to as a flex MBA, allows students to participate in classes in person, online or both. Classes are held in the college's smart classroom that uses a combination of robotic cameras mounted on the walls and webcams to allow remote students to participate in classroom activities in real time.

Students have used the facility to attend classes from Georgia, Ohio, New York City and Syracuse. Students who normally attend in person but need to travel for work or personal reasons can attend online while they're away. Classroom sessions are recorded, so students who miss a class can catch up later through the course archive. The program also uses an online learning platform that enables local and remote students to collaborate on group projects.

James Norrie, dean of Business and Justice Studies at the college, refers to the facility as a "super" smart classroom because of the sophisticated technology involved. "To the best of our knowledge, we're the first institution in upstate NY to actually make the investment in this type of classroom," he told the CNYhomepage.com.

According to a report on CNYhomepage.com, a the college is currently building a "larger and even more advanced smart classroom."
