Blackboard Managed Hosting Rolls Out Virtual Operating Environment
Blackboard is implementing Scalent Systems' Virtual Operating Environment for its Blackboard Managed Hosting service. Built on technologies from Scalent, Red Hat, NetApp, and Dell, the revamped environment is designed to provide greater flexibility for data center management and improved security and recovery capabilities.
Blackboard Managed Hosting is Blackboard's SaaS delivery model for its learning management system. The service provides basic LMS hosting, as well as content management, learning outcomes management, and portfolio management, among other services. The move to the Virtual Operating Environment, according to Blackboard, will help provide greater up time and responsiveness.
"Blackboard's customers demand and expect uptime and responsiveness," said Jonas Hirshfield, senior director of technology for Blackboard Managed Hosting, in a statement released Tuesday. "We started by implementing the right platform foundation for optimal price-performance--using Scalent V/OE, we created a cohesive whole, while concurrently reducing future operational expansion costs."
According to Scalent, the Virtual Operating Environment provides management, automation, and virtualization across physical and virtual servers, networks, and storage systems.
