Scholar360 LMS-SN 4.2 Expands Multimedia Capabilities
Learning management system developer Scholar360 has released a new version of its LMS, Scholar360 LMS-SN 4.2.
Scholar360 LMS-SN combines course management, social networking, and Web 2.0 tools in a secure, online hosted learning environment that provides collaboration tools, support for distance education, course and lesson creation, extensive grade and assessment tools, and tracking and report generation, among other capabilities.
Version 4.2 includes a number of improvements to the UI and existing functionality, including improvements to the Global Object Learning Repository, support for avatars in live chat, improvements to discussion forums, new test tools and test management capabilities, and new gradebook features.
Other new features include:
- Integration with Tegrity lecture capture software;
- Moodle question import;
- LaTeX support;
- An integrated Flash video player;
- Editable chapters and bookmarking capabilities in the video player;
- CAS integration;
- Alerts and announcements;
- A new notepad; and
- Several new parent features, including parent accounts, resources, and special gradebook access.
In other Scholar360 news, in response to the news of Blackboard buying out Angel Learning, for campuses considering switching from Angel, the company is now guaranteeing that its hosted Scholar360 learning management system will be 10 percent less than what institutions are currently paying for Angel LMS.
"Schools now forced to look for an alternative solution to an Angel Learning/Blackboard partnership can utilize our offer to cut their current LMS costs by at least 10 percent and quite possibly considerably more," said Cathy Garland, vice president of marketing and sales, in a statement released Friday. "The discount, combined with our migration tools, can make a transition less burdensome than schools anticipate. We believe schools will find our progressive social networking features, learner-centered tools, and unmatched personalized support will alleviate frustration and help them come out on top."
