San Jose State Recommends Desire2Learn to Faculty

San Jose State University (SJSU) in California will be moving to Desire2Learn for its preferred learning management system (LMS) over the next year. The school began an evaluation of multiple applications earlier in 2009.

Although Blackboard has been used at San Jose State for about eight years, only about a third of faculty integrate it into their courses, according to coverage in the institution's student newspaper. Other LMSes in use at the university have included Moodle, Angel Learning, and Pearson Education's CourseCompass.

"SJSU is looking to increase adoption of our eLearning initiatives across the campus, while maximizing financial resources in these tight financial times," said William Maguire, VP of IT and CIO. "We are confident that the easy to use and intuitive Desire2Learn platform will facilitate our plans. Desire2Learn has a proven track record and more than satisfies our standards for accessibility, quality, timeliness, and capacity to address our growing LMS needs."

Desire2Learn was placed on the approved learning management system list by the California State University system earlier this year. The list also includes Blackboard, Angel Software (now owned by Blackboard), and Moodle.
