Sophia Launches Mayo Clinic Tutorial Series

A Mayo Clinic surgeon and professor has developed a set of tutorials aimed at medical students and individuals considering the medical profession. The online lessons are available now, at no charge, through social learning platform Sophia.org.

The Mayo Clinic tutorials, created and taught by Dr. David Farley, focus on laproscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) and inguinal hernia repair. The 46 short-form tutorials are organized in sequence to align with the surgical process.

According to Sophia, Farley's goal is to provide additional training to medical students through the use of "simulation, online learning and preemptive learning."

"As a teacher, I've always been passionate in finding new and innovative ways to reach students," said Farley in a prepared statement. "I believe that this platform is of great service to students who are pursuing or considering medical careers."

Additional information is available at Sophia's Web site.
