Youngstown State U Deploys New LMS with Custom Rostering Tool

Youngstown State University (YSU) will deploy a new learning environment along with an auto-rostering tool built specifically for its needs.

The university decided to adopt Sakai 10 and has contracted with Unicon to build the auto-rostering tool and manage other services for the project, such as the implementation itself and conversion of custom content for the system.

The tool, which will be made available for use and customization for other institutions, "pulls data from the YSU student information system (SIS) and sends that information to Sakai," according to a news release. "Sakai then uses RESTful endpoints to take the data and create sites (and term codes for sites) and users. The tool can then automatically enroll and remove users from course sites based on the information it receives from the SIS."

"We believe the auto-rostering tool will be very advantageous to the new YSU Sakai 10 environment," said Ken Schindler, Associate Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, YSU. "Contributing this tool back to the community will ensure that it is used to its greatest potential by helping other institutions that face similar IT challenges."
