CU Boulder Launches Academic Advising Hub Online
The University of Colorado Boulder
(CU Boulder) has developed a new academic advising service designed to help
students stay in touch with their academic advisors, mentors and other
university staff.
The service, called MyCUHub,
is built on the Salesforce.com
constituent relationship management (CRM) platform. Students can log on to the
system through their existing MyCUInfo portal account and use it to schedule
appointments with academic advisors, sign up for campus events, receive
notifications about campus events and communicate with peers and campus
services.
From the academic advisors' perspective, the hub is intended to make it
easier to communicate with students. Advisors can use the system to send
appointment reminders, communicate with students, assign tasks and reminders to
students and receive an overview of students' academic and extracurricular
campus activities. For students who switch majors, the system is designed to
provide some continuity by letting the student's new advisor access information
from the previous school, college or department, so the student doesn't have to
start from scratch with their new advisor.
Other campus offices have found their own uses for MyCUHub. The Office of
Industry Collaboration is using it to maintain connections with companies,
departments, school and individuals, and the Office for Performance Improvement
is using it to track communications with clients. The entire CU system is also
using MyCUHub as its new e-communications tool.
CU Boulder began designing MyCUHub in July 2014 in collaboration with
several vendors. The university deployed version 1.0 of the advising and
student success tools in March 2015. Version 2.0 of the advising tool is
planned for summer or fall 2015, and the university plans to migrate its Leeds
School of Business, Law School and Center for Advanced Engineering and
Technology Education to the system in summer 2015.
