Indiana State U Adopts Mobile App for Campus Safety
Indiana State University (ISU) has deployed a mobile app to help protect 14,000 students, faculty and staff.
The university chose to adopt Rave's Guardian Mobile Safety App, a tool that allows users to create "virtual safety networks" made up of friends, family and campus security services. Once a network is created, users can set a personal safety timer that allows those in their network to monitor status updates, location and assigned check-in times. If the timer expires, or if a user presses a panic button on the app, campus safety personnel are notified.
Other features of the app include the ability to provide anonymous tips, multimedia messaging, opt-in safety profiles for users and the ability for campus safety organizations to display profiles and GPS locations when users press a panic button.
"We've been very pleased with Rave's instant text messaging capabilities, so implementing Guardian was a natural next step for us," said Joe Newport, chief of police at ISU, in a prepared statement. "The university is committed to doing all it can to ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff. ISU Guardian is just one more way technology can help keep the campus safe."
