ProQuest SIPX Adds Features for Easier Creation and Sharing of Digital Course Materials

ProQuest has launched new capabilities in its SIPX digital course materials products designed to make it easier for faculty to create and share digital content. The company's three SIPX solutions — SIPX Central, SIPX Campus and SIPX for MOOCs — pull together open educational resources, publisher content and library holdings in a Web-based system that addresses copyright and cost concerns for colleges and universities.

In a press release, the company cited four primary enhancements:

  • Extension of SIPX's permanent linking technology into repeating courses on learning management systems and teaching platform course Web pages;
  • Individual reading links created in SIPX automatically appear in LMS course Web pages;
  • More options for streamlined authentication to campus systems to enable single sign-on for instructors and students; and
  • Deeper integration with ProQuest-subscribed documents, reducing the need for scanning or uploading.

Benefits of the system include "average savings of 20-35 percent for students on course materials; over 50 percent savings for institution-pay models and library reserves permissions budgets; copyright-compliance for the university and flexibility to support a wide range of faculty's preferred teaching platforms; granular analytics insights for school and library on course material selection and student engagement; as well as cost-recovery opportunities for school- and instructor-owned copyrights," according to a company statement.
