Florida International Goes Campus Wide with EPortfolio Project

A Florida institution has implemented a universal e-portfolio application after testing it in one of its schools. Florida International University has signed a campus-wide license for Portfolium. This e-portfolio company provides a cloud-based service to let users capture, curate and share their education, skills and experiences and to give institutions of higher education and companies tools for assessing competencies and recruiting talent.

The contract was put in place after completion of a fall 2015 pilot program in the Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

According to Bridgette Cram, student success manager in the Office of the Provost, in a press release, the Chaplin school was an "early adopter" of Portfolium and experienced a "painless rollout." Both students and faculty members reported that the online service "filled a key gap between college and career." So, the university moved "forward in launching this service to benefit all students, campus-wide," she said.

The company noted that the agreement with Florida International covers more than 44,000 students. In that time, they've added 286,000 data points, which may be resumes, specific skills, photos or links to LinkedIn profile information.

Among Portfolium's other institutional customers are the California State University schools, including Fresno and Stanislaus; the California Community College System; and the University of California, San Diego.
