Brandman U Launches Competency-Based IT Degree

Brandman University is expanding its MyPath competency-based education program with a new Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.S.IT). Designed both for students who are new to the IT field and for those who are expanding their skill sets, the online degree program spans 39 competencies, including system analysis, data analytics and mobile development. Course content is available any time, anywhere via the MyPath mobile app.

Brandman worked with Flat World Education to launch the MyPath learning platform last year. The app incorporates gamification, personalization, adaptive learning, direct assessment, digital badging and a peer-to-peer social learning suite. Learning analytics measure student progress and a faculty dashboard provides insight into student engagement and productivity. Students work at their own pace, and on average achieve their competencies in half the time they would in traditional courses, according to a press release.

The curriculum for the MyPath B.S.IT was developed with input from faculty as well as Brandman's network of employers to identify key skill requirements for the evolving IT job market. "By partnering with Flat World and developing curricula in conversation with employers, faculty, students and experienced instructional designers, we're ensuring that our programs are underpinned by the highest level of rigor," said Gary Brahm, Brandman University chancellor. "We look forward to expanding our offerings with Flat World in the future and continuing to show employers that a competency-based degree from Brandman means a prospective employee has the skills and knowledge they need to succeed."
