MIT Program Awards 15 High School Teams for Inventions

A program from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s School of Engineering that celebrates outstanding inventions from high school students has selected 15 teams nationwide to receive a $10,000 grant for their inventions.  

The Lemelson-MIT Program, founded in 1994, is funded by the Oregon-based Lemelson Foundation and administered by MIT faculty and experts.

This year’s InvenTeams comprise students, teachers and community members from across 13 states. Projects address real-world health, environmental and safety problems, including:

  • A system that provides temporary shelter for people who are homeless;
  • A device that senses pets and children in the backseats of cars; and
  • A robotic device that monitors temperatures and helps prevent heat stress for young chickens.

Applications for the 2017-2018 school year are now open.
