Suffolk U Students Crowdfund Their Own Startups

Students at Suffolk University are crowdfunding their business school projects as part of a new entrepreneurship course. The course, Crowdfunding the Startup, asks students to fund their own startup companies through Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns.

"While a few other universities are discussing crowdfunding as part of traditional course content, the real-world approach to this course makes it different," said entrepreneurship professor Jennifer Dinger in a press release. "Suffolk students in this class are learning how to turn their business ideas into action, and they are going after the funding to support those enterprises."

Examples of the student projects include:

  • WarmUp Protein Coffee, a high-protein coffee designed for fitness-focused people on the go;
  • The Wicked Fisha, a line of fishing equipment such as a cooler/tackle box combo;
  • Buddha Bus Yoga, a provider of traveling yoga classes based in a mobile studio;
  • Goliath Gallon, a reusable, BPA-free one-gallon bottle;
  • NEO Miners, a space-themed card game focused on resource management and economic principles;
  • Vegitano, a health food brand offering vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free products; and
  • The Upward Bound Project, providing financial assistance to Upward Bound students who participate in Startup Suffolk, a bridge program for high school seniors.
