Augusta U Invests in Assessment and E-Portfolio Tool

Augusta University is rolling out learning assessment technology from Chalk & Wire to evaluate student achievement and meet accreditation requirements. The institution's College of Education and Office of Experiential Learning are using the company's CWPro product for a variety of assessment and e-portfolio needs. The tool will integrate with the university's D2L Brightspace learning management system for a seamless learning experience.

In the College of Education, students will use CWPro to document coursework and experiential learning, and will develop e-portfolios to showcase their skills to potential employers. Faculty will use the platform to "evaluate evidence of achievement and provide timely and relevant feedback to learners via text and audio comments," according to a news release. They can also use CWPro to provide feedback on student videos.

In the Office of Experiential Learning, CWPro will help measure students' progress toward learning outcomes as they complete field placements, service work, internships, clinical rounds and more. As part of the university's accreditation requirements, the office is kicking off a Learning by Doing Quality Enhancement Plan, which will rely on CWPro to assess students who "engage in new coursework, achieve new learning outcomes and are exposed to new experiential learning opportunities."

"Chalk & Wire offers many different layers of reliable academic assessment data for measuring student performance, as well as how the College of Education is progressing at the course level and program level," said Judi Wilson, associate dean of the College of Education at Augusta University, in a statement. "Reporting tools and data will help us prepare for upcoming accreditation processes, as we can use collaborative workspaces to dynamically author narratives, delegate tasks and discuss assessment findings."
