New Module Connects Moodle to Oracle Student Information System in Real Time

Moodle, the widely deployed open source learning management system, now has the ability to communicate in real time with Oracle's student information system, the Student Administration Integration Pack, thanks to new features developed by Moodlerooms.

SAIP is a student data system intended to help ease integration and management processes for higher education institutions employing a variety of administrative and educational systems. The module, a part of the Academic Enterprise Solutions suite, provides integration between PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions and a variety of learning management systems, including Blackboard, Sakai, and Moodle.

The new tools developed by Moodlerooms take the integration between SAIP and Moodle further, providing contoinuous synchronization of course, student, and enrollment information between the two systems, "as opposed to having to manually export and import the data--an extremely valuable function for managing constant drop/adds during course enrollment periods each semester," according to Moodlerooms.

"In the interest of providing beneficial options to our customers, it is significant that a company of Oracle's stature chose Moodlerooms to develop this integration," said Martin Knott, CEO of Moodlerooms, in a statement released this week. "Connecting proprietary software with open-source software is a major step forward for the future of online education."
