edX has teamed up with CourseTalk to provide a platform for course reviews that includes star ratings and in-depth comments.

The service, currently up and running on edX, displays a sidebar containing mini-reviews on each course description page. Users can then click through to read the complete reviews on CourseTalk.com to help them decide whether to take a course or not.

Reviews cover course quality, difficulty, workload and general thoughts about the course and provide information about the reviewer (such as whether he or she has completed the course in question).

According to CourseTalk: "This new collaboration between CourseTalk and edX will enhance the online education experience for students, professors, and universities around the world. Prospective students will be able to quickly evaluate if an online course is a good fit for them before they enroll by reading peer course reviews. Professors will be able to have their work recognized by past and current students, helping raise awareness of their courses and identifying best practices in online teaching and learning. By having students objectively review courses, universities gain recognition for their academic reputation with future students, and help increase demand for their growing selection of online courses."
